About the Pilot

My name is Weston Koyama, and I am a public defense attorney in Portland, Oregon with a deep passion for aviation, technology, and expanding access to knowledge. In my legal career, I have dedicated myself to representing people who are often overlooked and to standing beside clients as a committed advocate through some of the hardest moments of their lives. That work has shaped the way I see the world: with a strong belief that complex systems should be made more understandable, more humane, and more accessible.

That same belief is what draws me to aviation. Flight has long inspired me because it represents freedom, skill, discipline, and possibility. I am especially interested in ways that aviation can become more accessible to people who may not fit neatly into traditional pathways. Through pdxFlight, I hope to share both my enthusiasm for aviation and my commitment to helping others approach it in a safe, lawful, and informed way.

I am also a technology enthusiast and programmer who enjoys building tools, self-hosting applications, and exploring practical ways that technology can empower people. Whether in law, aviation, or software, I am drawn to systems that help people solve problems and gain confidence in areas that might otherwise feel intimidating. pdxFlight reflects those combined interests: advocacy, aviation, and technology working together in service of a broader vision of accessible flight.
